What is ADHD

The Basic Rundown on ADHD

Steve Shave

ADHD is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder. Neurodevelopmental disorders describe a range of disorders that occur when the brain doesn’t develop as expected.

Because of the way ADHD brains develop, people with ADHD may struggle with things like:

  • Planning & organising
  • Paying attention
  • Forgetting things
  • Acting impulsively
  • Talking or moving too much
  • Regulating emotions
  • & more

A lot of people without ADHD may experience similar issues from time to time, particularly when they’re stressed or going through a hard time. The difference is that despite their best efforts, people with ADHD demonstrate these symptoms chronically from childhood and their symptoms reduce quality of life significantly in at least two settings (e.g., work and home). For example, people with ADHD are 61% more likely to have been fired from their job.

People with ADHD benefit immensely with treatment.
